BMS Connected Learning Newsletter 11.5.2018 The BMS Learning Community is Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Succeed! Upcoming Events: (Note: Please review the dates as dates are subjected to change due to a number of factors from one newsletter to the next).
Note from Dr. Anderson: On behalf of the BMS Learning Community, we would like to thank our BMS PTO for their support with bringing David Flood to BMS. On Wednesday, October 31, 2018, David spoke to our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders about dignity and respect. In particular, using his own personal stories about his son who has autism, David challenged our learning community with three challenges. Challenge 1: Look at the inside Challenge 2: Thank an adult for making our learning community safe Challenge 3: No one sits alone I encourage you to speak with your child regarding their reaction to David’s message. Our students were amazing audience members and we believe benefited greatly from this presentation. If you have not done so already, please check on David’s website address at http://davidjflood.com/, BMS Spotlight on Learning: This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Chef Anna and our BMS Kitchen Staff. We are happy to report that our BMS Kitchen passed the Board of Health Inspection with flying colors, as well as Anna receiving exemplary scores on her Food Service certification. Great work Anna and our BMS Kitchen Staff! You do an amazing job and our BMS Learning Community is lucky to have such a caring and devoted kitchen staff! We would also like to shine our BMS Spotlight on our 6th Grade Student Cody Wood. This past Friday, Cody was observed demonstrating kindness and sportsmanship to his fellow students in his PE class. As students walked up to the base to hit, Cody gave pointers to those students unfamiliar with wiffle ball helping them to know where and how to stand, and where and when to swing. In addition, Cody was just as excited for his classmates when they got a hit for their first time. Great work Cody showing kindness and compassion! We would also like to shine our BMS Spotlight on our Teaching Assistants . In particular, from an anonymous source, this week we would like to feature Mrs. Eileen Oakland. “All of our TA's are amazing. They are spread thin across the building and service students in multiple clusters, but always get the job done. Eileen Oakland is awesome. It amazes me how she can jump from cluster to cluster and grade to grade with such ease. She never misses a beat. She is so patient with all of the kids and is willing to do whatever it takes for the kids to find success. Her positive attitude and sense of humor make working with her a joy. Our school community is a better place because of her and all of our Teaching Assistants.” BMS News you can Use: BMS Building Update: The new building construction is well underway. To help with communication, each week I have been releasing the BMS Building Project Blog. You can access the blog by visiting the BMS Building Project Homepage or the direct link to the BMS Building Project Blog. In addition, each Tuesday morning we will have a student volunteer give updates to our student body during morning announcements.
