BMS Spotlight on Learning: This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Kellie Polando. Recently, Mrs. Polando collaborated with Mr. McFarland’s Science class and videotaped 18 newscast teams from Aqua on their recent volcanic eruptions. Mrs. Polando offered technical support, editing, and presentation methodology during filming. In addition, she has given 20 FAST periods of her time to enrich this experience for the students. Well done Kellie! This week we would also like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mark Davis. Mr. Davis offered his expertise to Aqua students in development and creation of effective infographics to highlight their recent finds from their fossil dig. Mr. Davis provided lessons and rubrics with playlists from which students learned about the art and science of an infographic. BMS New Information: One Amazing Night! Students are asked to bring a flower of their choice with them to this event; it will be incorporated into the ceremony. 8th Grade Dinner Dance: Our 8th Grade Dinner Dance will take place directly after the Bridge Ceremony from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm for BMS 8th grade students only. This year’s theme is under the sea and glow in the dark! Tickets will be purchased in homeroom for $20.00 the week prior to the event. BMS Spotlight on Learning: This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on 8th Grade Students Christopher Clyne, Perry Davis, Evana Hernandez, Courtney Brady, and Helen Copple for participating in this year’s Letters About Literature competition. Christopher and Perry tied for 3rd place, and Evana, Courtney and Helen were honorable mentions. Out of 237 submissions to the Letters About Literature National Contest, five of our BMS student letters won 3rd place or Honorable Mention for the state of Rhode Island. Great work students! This week we also would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Urbonas and her Spanish classes. Inspired by the RULER Mood Meter, Mrs. Urbonas created a Spanish version on the wall of her classroom bringing emotion vocabulary to life. Well done Mrs. Urbonas! This week we would also like to shine our BMS Spotlight on our Girls and Boys Track Teams. Our Boys AND Girls track teams both came in 1st place yesterday at the Divisional meet and are now Eastern Division State Champs! Great work team! Finally, this week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Chef Anna. Chef Anna regularly goes out of her way to meet the needs of our students and faculty/staff. Thank you Anna for being such an amazing and caring chef! BMS New Information: Students Sending/Responding Mass Emails: It has been our practice here at BMS not to allow students to send or respond to mass emails. The purpose of email is for students to collaborate and communicate with group members and teachers for educational purposes. Our stance has been, and will continue to be, not to send emails out to groups bigger than 4 individuals. Anything larger than 4 is considered a “mass” email and would first need administrative approval. Over the past week we have made repeated announcements to students, sent emails, had individual conversations, as well as issued consequences for students who have not complied with our practice. It would be incredibly helpful if you could reinforce this message at home. As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Device Free Evening: Thursday, May 16, 2019, Barrington will once again participate in a community wide Device Free Evening. Please see the supporting link with additional information on how to take a break from technology! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NO8Uzo2Q0WU7JVePI7MSl5NU_OkRhHHO-XDGzAocYe4/edit?usp=sharing BMS Yearbooks: The sale period for yearbooks from October 2018 to April 2019 is now closed as our yearbook producer must now begin manufacture of our books to get them here for the end of school. There are times where we have counted nearly 300 bikes! With that said, it is important for us to review bike safety to and from school:
Car Safety: As the weather gets warmer, there will be more and more bikes riding to school. We cannot stress enough to take extra caution during drop off and pickup time. Please be sure to be mindful when pulling into the parking lot for walkers and bikers, and when pulling out of the parking lot, please look twice. Unfortunately, last year we did have an accident with a car and biker (note: student was okay but very shaken). One Amazing Night: We can’t believe One Amazing Night is right around the corner! Please join us at Barrington Middle School from 5:00pm - 7:00pm on Thursday, May 23, 2019 for a celebration of all things BMS. Families will be able to enjoy food, music performed by BMS student performance groups, giant obstacle course, badminton, academic showcase, as well as demonstrations in our STEAM Studio and Woodshop. Please note that this is not a drop off event. Students must be in attendance with an adult. Chromebook Care:
