Barrington Middle School BMS Connected Learning Newsletter 10.1.2018 The BMS Learning Community is Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Succeed! Upcoming Events: (Note: Please review the dates as dates are subjected to change due to a number of factors from one newsletter to the next).
Note from Dr. Anderson One of our favorite features in our BMS Connect Learning Newsletter as well as our weekly bulletin to our teachers/staff is the BMS Spotlight on Learning. What we love the most is when we receive recommendations for spotlights from teachers/staff who have been touched or moved by someone else's actions. We would like to open this opportunity to our families as well. If you know/see of a worthy spotlight, please send me an email and I will do my best to include it in an upcoming newsletter. BMS Spotlight on Learning This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mr. Jeffery Blanchet. During last week’s PTO meeting, Mr. Blanchet provided the parents with an overview of the math progression from 6th grade to 12th grade. Jeff did a great job providing an overview and answering questions. Well done Jeff! We would also like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Becky Henderson, Mr. Mark Davis, Mr. Mark Aubin, Mrs. Kristen Willett, and Mr. Anthony Borgueta for opening their classrooms for our lighthouse visit. Our visitors were so impressed by the level of student engagement, student voice, and real world connections and applications. Great work! We would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Ms. Sandy McCauley, Mrs. Jaime Poirier, and Ms. Krystal Sleboda for organizing BMS’s Start with Hello week. This past week was filled with kindness, inclusion, and appreciation. Great work team! Finally, from an anonymous source, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Barbara Nozaki. Each morning Mrs. Nozaki greets the students coming through the front doors with enthusiasm and excitement. Such a great way for students arriving to school! Great job Mrs. Nozaki BMS News you can Use BMS Building Update: The new building construction is well underway. To help with communication, each week I have been releasing the BMS Building Project Blog. You can access the blog by visiting the BMS Building Project Homepage or the direct link to the BMS Building Project Blog. In addition, each Tuesday morning we will have a student volunteer give updates to our student body during morning announcements. Student Youtube Access: On November 1, 2018, students at Barrington Middle School will no longer be able to access the Youtube website. This shift in practice will greatly reduce students ability to search inappropriate videos (non school related content). With that said, Barrington Middle School teachers will be asked to create an edpuzzle account during the month of October. Edpuzzle will allow teachers to post content/curriculum specific Youtube videos to the platform, and students will be able to access only those videos by accessing their teachers Edpuzzle accounts. This message will be the first of many, as we will have subsequent messages providing support for this transition. As always, please email me if you have any questions. Mindful Mornings: Our Student Assistance Counselor, Katie Hamel, is starting a new program called Mindful Mornings. Each Tuesday and Thursday morning from 7:20 am to 7:35 am, students may join her for a quiet, peaceful time to start their day in a mindful, calm way. Sign-up is required (sign-up sheet in the office). Remind App: If you have not done so already, please join our Remind App. Please simply click the following link: https://www.remind.com/join/bmsfam If you no longer would like to receive messages, simply send a reply text of “@LEAVE”. This will take you out of the BMS Remind text messages. Picture Day: Mark your calendar! Picture Day is Wednesday, October 10, 2018. This past Monday, Mr. Blanchet, Dr. Dillon and myself provided the parents with an overview of various mathematical pathways offered at Barrington Middle School and Barrington High School. Knowing not everyone was able to attend the PTO meeting, below you will find the slides used as well as a recorded VLOG. After you review, please feel free to contact your child’s math teacher, school counselor, or myself if you have any questions.
