BMS Spotlight on Learning: This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Ms. Traci Taglione. Over the past couple of months, Ms. Talione has been making great strides in planning her lessons using Universal Design for Learning principles, as well as various Blended Learning strategies. According to an anonymous source, Ms. Tags has been making her instruction engaging and accessible to all learning styles (UDL), as well as creating playlists (Blended Learning) where students are able to explore and learn at their own pace. Well done Ms. Tags! BMS News you can Use: BMS Building Update: The new building construction is well underway. Note from Dr. Anderson: Recently, Barrington Middle School received their accountability report/score from the Rhode Island Department of Education. BMS was one of 3 middle schools in the state to receive a “5 Star” rating! Ratings include performance on the recent RICAS assessment, as well as results from last year’s Survey Works data from students, parents, and faculty. Earning a “5 Star” rating is a tremendous accomplishment that we all should be very proud of. We can’t thank each of you enough for your hard work, dedication, and your love for middle school. We are who we are because of our amazing students, talented faculty/staff, and supportive parents! https://reportcard.ride.ri.gov/SchoolSnapshot?SchCode=01108&DistCode=01 BMS Spotlight on Learning: This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Kerri Thurber and her amazing BMS Chorus! Prior to break, Mrs. Thurber and her students sang to a packed house. We would like to especially thank Mrs. Thurber for her commitment, dedication, and love she has for her students. Thank you for all that you do! This week we would also like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Kristin Meyestre and her Orange Cluster Writers! Recently, Mrs. Meystre and her students received a Certificate of Appreciation from Command Sergeant Major Thetford and General Votel of the U.S. Army for all of the letters that our Orange Cluster students had written to our U.S. Service Members. Thank you Mrs. Meyestre for providing this opportunity to your students. In particular the Certificate of Appreciation reads: We would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to you and your students in the 7th grade class of Barrington Rhode Island Middle School for all the letters that they’ve written to our service Members. The letters your students wrote touched our Troops on deployment, many in remote and austere conditions, far from home. Your students reminded us that what we’re doing still matters and in turn will hopefully build a sense of patriotism in them. OUr service Members had a reneses sense of purpose with every word read. Again we can not be more grateful for your students. This week we would also like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Ms. AnnMarie Gower and Ms. Kara Scanlon for helping with Razzgiving. Ms. Gower and Ms. Scanlon spent time working with the 4th graders from William D’Abate school to help them learn how to play baseball. The kids had a great time in the BMS gym! Winter LEAPP Walkthrough: Mrs. Bulk and I would like to take a brief moment to congratulate our faculty on a fantastic Winter LEAPP data collection. This year, our focus is on our teachers posting “I Can Statements” (learning targets that are written in student friendly language), Students Tracking their own Data, and Students Engaging in the Reflective Process. As you can see from the chart below, we have already exceeded our two of our goals and working meeting our third goal. Great work BMS. In addition, two students from Mrs. Polando’s class took pictures of the various learning strategies and will be putting the pictures together in a format that will be shared with our teachers to inspire and share the great work that is happening throughout our building.
